The Tended Garden
the great clump, brilliant yellow,
of daylilies opened wide to the sun
and the blue tall lupine spears
that punctuate the golden explosion
mark the end of the lawn
of the carefully tended land
beyond it the wild roses cover the bank
rebellious and disorderly
tumbling down to the rocks
to the lines of seaweed
chaos
and the ocean coming and going
